Sestriere Ski Resort, Ski City in the Milky Way
The ski region has four major ski resorts, the Claviere, the Cesana-Sansicario, the Sauze d’Oulx, and the Sestriere. The Claviere ski resort is ideal for families in which the parents are teaching the young ones how to ski.
Romantic couples that enjoy the private rustic settings prefer the Cesana-Sansicario ski resort. Groups of people who loved a lively après ski would go to the Sauze d’Oulx ski resort. The serious skiers, however, who demand challenging pistes as well as comfortable amenities, the ski resort of Sestriere is the superior choice. The Sestriere was built in the 1930s. As innovations and improvements are implemented every year, the Sestriere is always a new ski resort.
At the Sestriere ski resort, the skiers will have access to 105 ski runs that total to about 400 kilometers. About half of these runs are designed for intermediate skiers. For example, the ski runs in the Monti della Luna area go through the woods with the widths perfectly suited for those who love to combine pleasure and challenge in skiing. There is a total of 15 kilometers of cross-country trails and a snow park. The longest ski run is about five kilometers, which means extended skiing fun. Sestriere is also the location of the famous Giovanni Alberto Agnelli piste, the ski run used by the Alpine World Championships in 1997. The same ski run is open for nighttime skiing until 10 pm.
Amenity-wise, the Sestriere ski resort is both inclusive and state-of-the-art. The resort was purposely built with skiers in mind. There are numerous hotels, restaurants, and shops. The cost of hotel accommodations is average but the skiers can reduce their expenses by renting apartments. Various international cuisines can be enjoyed from any of the 33 restaurants and 30 bars. There are shops for ski equipment and boutiques for those who are keen on Italian fashion. And if skiers wanted alternatives to skiing, the new ski resort has facilities for bowling, paragliding, ice-skating, and even golf. Of course, the gym is well outfitted with physical fitness equipment, including sauna tubs.
Within the new ski resort of Sestriere, there are 92 lifts, of which the lowest is at 1,840 meters, and the highest is at 2,840 meters. The Sestriere’s open season is from December to April, when the snow conditions are excellent.
The snow is natural because the Sestriere is located at 2,035 meters above sea level, and right at the foot of the Sises Mountain. The Sestriere ski resort is also flanked by Mount Fraiteve and Mount Banchetta. To reach the new ski resort of Sestriere, skiers can come in through the international airport of Turin (or Torino, as the Italians like to call it).
Then the skiers can either use the bus or the shuttle to reach the resort area. For a shorter bus ride, the skiers can ride a train first to reach Oulx and then get on a bus to Sestriere. If coming from France, the skiers can take the train from Paris to reach Turin.
A Brief Introduction to the Philadelphia Flyers Hockey Team
The Philadelphia Flyers hockey team is one of the most popular hockey teams in the country, with a huge fan base and rock solid support. Philadelphia’s professional ice hockey team is a member of the Atlantic Division of the Eastern Conference of the National Hockey League (NHL). Founded in 1967 as a part of the NHL expansions, the Philadelphia Flyers hockey team has always been one of the best expansion teams throughout and also holds the record for being the first expansion team to win the Stanley cup.
However, the years before the Stanley cup win were not great to begin with. The team was a mediocre medley of physically outmatched players during the initial years, which led to the management hiring large and tough players, who managed to earn the title of the Broad Street Bullies in 1972-73, much before they earned any other significant title. However, all this changed when the team won two consecutive Stanley cups in both 74 and 75. But this was the team’s last Stanley cup win, for while the team has managed to reach the playoffs time and time again, the cup has eluded them since 1975. This does not however mean that the team is past its glory, and is today among the best teams in the NHL, with the second highest winning percentage in the League.
The Philadelphia flyers are always in competition with other Atlantic Division members– the New York Islanders, the Pittsburgh Penguins, the New York Rangers and the New Jersey Devils. Their favorite foes however would be the New Jersey Devils, who have been major competition in the Atlantic Division titles, and being the only other team apart from the flyers to take the title since 1995.
While the team has had a history of producing great players, Bobby Clark, three time winner of the Hart Memorial Trophy, has been one of the best players ever to play on the side. Eric Lindros and Dave Schultz “Hammer” also find their names somewhere on the top of the list of the most famous Flyers players.
The Philadelphia Flyers have been playing their home games in Broad Street at the Wachovia Center. You can also catch them in action here during season. Tickets to Flyers games are available as different packages ranging from single and season tickets to package and group tickets.
If you are planning to become a Philadelphia Flyers hockey team fan, then you should become the owner of a Flyers jersey soon. The orange, white and black jersey and its many avatars has become a part of hockey folklore, what with its being one of the most recognized NHL jerseys in the country. You can also easily stock up on a number of other merchandise with the Philadelphia Flyers hockey team logo of a flying puck with four Ps to show your support and allegiance to the team.
National Hockey League? Pass, Hit and Goal
National hockey league is a game that features about 30 odd ice hockey teams and it was created way back in 1917 in Canada. It is part of the major leagues that takes place in North America and National hockey League is commonly referred to as NHL. The thirty teams are divided into two sects of fifteen teams in each who play in all major championships. When it was initially founded, it had only about 4 teams and over the years it has gone through a major metamorphosis and today has many more teams and is very popular around the world. Of the total playing teams, about 6 of them are in Canada and rest in America. Its only in the recent past that there have been teams from Europe who have joined this league and competing in major tournaments. The leading team in National Hockey League are the Montreal Canadiens followed by Toronto Maple leafs, other teams are all close on the heels of these teams. In America, the leading team is the Detroit Red Wings and New York Yankees.
All these states have a qualified team of players who represent them in all major league matches. The games are played in an indoor stadium for a duration of 60minutes, with both teams having a go at it, and whoever scores the most goals wins. If the teams are at a tie , having the same score, then overtime will be awarded and again whoever can score a couple of extra goals wins. The players will be given a penalty shot, which means they play solo against the goal keeper of the opponent team and try to score. There is no ball in this game, but a puck, and the players don’t play with bats, they use sticks. The ice hockey is a game played by those who have good balancing skills and are able to walk around on ice. It takes a lot of practice to get used to walking or skating on ice, and more so when running about playing a game, trying to dodge other players and focusing on the goal post.
Fans from America or familiar with the sport will remain loyal fans wherever they go and will either come back home to watch a match or find a way to watch it live. The Stanley cup championships is one of the most popular championships in National Hockey League and current leaders are the Montreal Canadians and the New York Yankees with most number of wins. The National Hockey league season is played in parts, in October and then a play off in April and finally the Stanley cup championships after the qualifying teams have played the seven series and come out winners. The premier hockey players are all professional players who have chosen this as a career option. And so, they spend their time representing their team, participating in one league after the other unless some injury forces them to rest and miss a match.
Air Hockey For The Beginner
Air Hockey Tables
A normal air hockey table consists of a large smooth playing area, encompassed by a rail to prevent the puck and mallets from leaving the table, and slots in the rail at either end of the table that serve as goals. On the ends of the table behind and below the goals, there is an area to retrieve the puck after a goal. Also, tables will usually have machinery that produces a cushion of air on the play surface through tiny holes, with the purpose of reducing friction and increasing play speed.
Sometimes the machinery is deleted altogether in favor of a slick table surface, usually plastic, generally these are your cheaper models. One thing to note is that there are also pucks that use a battery and fan to generate their own air cushion, but they tend to break so they are commonly marketed only as toys.
USAA (United States Air-Table-Hockey Association) currently approves only the 8-foot tables manufactured by Dynamo for tournament play. Approved tables include the Photon, Pro-Style, older Blue Top, Brown Top, Purple Top or Black Top with unpainted rails.
A mallet is usually nothing more than a handle attached to a flat surface that lies flush with the surface of the table.
Thin discs of lexan polycarbonate resin are used as the hockey pucks. USAA approved pucks must be either yellow lexan, red lexan or the dynamo green.
Basic rules
Here are some basic rules as defined by the USAA:
* A face-off or coin toss decides which player gets the first possession of the puck.
* The first person to score 7 points by shooting the puck into the opponent’s goal wins the game. When the puck breaks the horizontal plane inside the goal, a point is counted, whether or not captured by the electronic scoring device.
* Once the puck is on a certain player’s side of the center line, he/she has 7 seconds to hit the puck back across the center line. Otherwise a foul is committed and the opponent receives possession of the puck.
* Placing one’s mallet on top of the puck, known as topping, is a foul. Here the opponent receives possession of the puck.
* A player cannot touch or strike the puck with any part of his/her body or with any object other than the mallet. Doing so causes a foul and possession changes hands.
* If the puck is on a clear path into the goal and the player stops it with anything other than the mallet, this is goal tending. Here the opponent receives a free shot.
* Hitting the puck when it is on the opposite side of the center line, or crossing the center line completely with one’s mallet causes a foul. Here the opponent receives possession of the puck.
* If the puck leaves the table, a foul is called on the player that caused the puck to go out of play due to offensive motion and the opposing player gets possession of the puck. Generally, when a player causes the puck to leave the table with a forward motion of the mallet, even defensively (known as charging), the foul is charged on them. An out of play foul results in the opponent receiving possession of the puck.
Game Play
Competitive (tournament) play is usually distinguished by the following:
* The mallet is gripped behind the knob using one’s fingertips, not on top of it. This allows more wrist action and helps the player to move the mallet around the table faster.
* For basic defense, the mallet is kept centered at least 8 inches out from the goal. In this position, very slight movements to the left and right will block virtually all straight shots. To block bank shots, one pulls back quickly to the corners of the goal. This is known as the “triangle defense”.
* Shots are often hit out of “drifts”, where the puck travels in set patterns designed to throw off the opponent’s expectations and timing. The most popular drifts are the “center”, “diamond”, “diagonal”, and “L”.
* Shots are often organized into “combos”, meaning groups of shots which are hit with the same apparent delivery but opposite directions, caused by hitting the puck at slightly different locations on the mallet. For example, a transverse motion of the right arm can lead to a “cut shot” to the left corner of the opponent’s goal or a “right wall under” (bank off the right wall, into the right corner of the opponent’s goal).
Why Go to a Specialty Running Store for Running Shoes?
I remember my first pair of running shoes. I had read in a magazine article that the way to prevent injury was to buy good running shoes, and that any good running shoe would cost between $90-$130. A light bulb went on. I could prevent injury and potentially be a better runner, all in a shoe? Off I went.
My first stop was a huge multi-sport center. I breezed past the canoes, golf clubs, treadmills, and in-line skates. Scanning the display wall of shoes, I looked for something expensive because I thought that meant it must be a better brand or a better shoe. I naturally picked the shoe I thought looked the best, with the best complimentary color scheme, something I could “match” with any one of my “running outfits.”
Then I looked around, huffed and puffed, and all but threatened to blow down the display wall if I couldn’t get some help. My help finally arrived. He came from the tents and camping equipment section.
Was it a hideous experience? No, not exactly hideous. Did I get help? Yes. The nice man went back to look for the shoe I picked out. Was there a problem here? I didn’t think so, but any knowledgeable running store employee would have told me otherwise. This whole scenario was a problem.
First of all, you don’t buy shoes because of the color or style! You don’t buy shoes because you think the more they cost, the better they must be! And finally, you don’t buy shoes because they’ll match your outfit!
Lucky for me, the mega multi-sport center didn’t have the half size I needed, and I didn’t buy those shoes. The man helping me generously recommended a local specialty running store so that I could have the shoes that day. I remember wondering if that meant the shoes would cost even more.
Answer? No. I found out within the hour they wouldn’t cost more at the specialty running store. They actually cost less.
At the running store, the clerk asked me all about my running experience. Where do I run? How often? What type of surface? How far? I thought he was just making conversation. I found out later he had been assessing my individual needs. He looked at my feet and my old running shoes. Then he started bringing out boxes and asking more questions.
“How do they feel? What do you like about these? What don’t you like?”
He asked me to run the length of the store. At first I was embarrassed. Why was he watching me run? It turns out everyone has a different running style, and this is an important assessment. You should expect this at any reputable running specialty store. By the time I left, I felt like I had the best possible pair of running shoes for my overpronating, flat, narrow feet.
I learned a lot about my feet and about running in general. I also learned something about these knowledgeable running store employees. These are the people who know the latest in shoe design and performance. They are typically runners like you and me. They work there because they love running and they love helping other runners run better. Running specialty stores can also serve as a center for your local running community. This is the place to find local running groups, information on training and upcoming races or fun runs.
I consider myself lucky that the super sports center didn’t have my shoe size. If you’re reading this, you should consider yourself lucky, too. I did all of the research for you. Now, hurry. Run, don’t walk, to your favorite running specialty store! I recommend visiting the folks at Running Centers for Running & Jogging Shoes.
How to Buy Running Shoes
There are many quality shoes that you can choose from for a variety of purposes. One type of shoe that you can purchase is the running shoe. In order to find the right pair of running shoe for your activity level, consider the following tips.
Some points to consider when purchasing running shoes would be how long you run per day and how many times per week that you run. This is an important consideration for the life of your new running shoes because these shoes can be costly. Most good quality running shoes will cost on average from 50 dollars to a few hundred dollars, with few exceptions.
If you are a runner who runs about 25 minutes a day or less and three times a week, you are a person who may not need expensive running shoes. If you are looking to purchase a new pair of shoes, consider brand names that are known to perform well. For men, consider the Brooks Beast style shoe, or the Mizuno Alchemy shoe. The Brooks shoe should be purchased the same size as your street shoe and the Mizuno shoe should be purchased a half size bigger than your street shoe. Women who run 25 minutes a day or less can purchase either the Asics Nimbus or the Mizuno Wave Rider. These are both excellent running shoes. Both of these shoes will measure a half size bigger than womanâs street shoes.
If you run more than 25 minutes a day, several times a week, you will want to consider a more expensive running shoe. These higher quality shoes are designed to withstand more impact and offer more foot protection. Men may want to consider the Asics Nimbus, which measures a half size larger than your ordinary street shoe. Also, Mizuno Alchemy, which runs a whole size larger than the average shoe, is a good choice. Women might want to look at purchasing either the Brooks Glycerin or the Mizuno Alchemy. Both of these shoes usually measure a half size larger than the normal street shoe.
The brand you choose for running, however, is not exactly a doctorâs order, at least not most of the time. You can choose excellent running shoe models from a variety of other companies as well. Nike, Asics, Etonic, and Reebok are all brands that produce high quality athletic running shoes and are often popular choices. These are some of the brands that people most think of when considering brands of running shoes.
There are other considerations when purchasing running shoes. Think about how often a week you will run, and where you will run. For instance, if you are staying mostly on pavement or track fields, you may not need as rugged of a sole on the bottom of your shoe. On the other hand, if you prefer exercising outside on nature trails, mud, or other rough terrain, you will want to purchase a shoe that can withstand the elements.
Another big factor that affects which type of athletic running shoe that you should buy is whether or not your foot pronates. Pronation is when the foot turns in such a way that the inner sole of the foot holds most of the body weight. Over time, this condition can cause flat feet, Many of the more popular brands of shoes make running shoes that will help correct this problem in most people. Another option to help correct pronation is a shoe insert. These shoe inserts will help a runner maintain better balance while running for added safety.
One more aspect to consider when shopping for running shoes is to determine whether you have narrow or wide feet, and whether or not they are arched or normal. There are many lines of shoes are designed for various foot shapes and arch levels. In addition, there are several resources for people with flat feet. Brooks Beast and Saucony Grid Stabil are two of the most distinct models of shoes that offer added support for people with a variety of foot conditions, such as flat feet. Sometimes an arched insole or arch brace can help combat against the problem of flat feet as well.
If you are serious about running and run everyday, or whether you want to run three days a week or less, consider all the options when looking at running shoes. The easiest way to search for available styles of shoes that are right for you is on the Internet. You can easily find locations of shoe stores nearest and research various brands and features.

Some Advice On How To Stay Motivated To Run
Staying Motivated to Run
Do you have a hard time staying motivated to run? There are a lot of things that can affect your desire to go running. In f act, every runner, even those who are passionate about it, often experiences times when they would rather be doing anything but running. In order to stay motivated to run, it is important to understand that a lot of these “reasons” are actually just excuses. And excuses often indicate a simple lack of motivation.
The good news is, these issues are very easy to overcome, especially if you understand all that running can do for you. It improves your health and your mood and is very good exercise. When you feel as if your motivation for running is not as good as it can be, use some, or all, of these tips to get you going.
Understand Why You Like Running
After you get back from a particularly successful run, get a piece of paper and write down exactly why you love running. Keep this list in a safe place. Now, when you can think of a million things you would rather be doing, read the list. Use it as a way to inspire you and get you out the door.
Prepare the Night Before
If you go running in the morning, lay out your clothes and shoes the night before. Sometimes, it is difficult getting moving in the morning. When you are groggy, the last thing you want to do is shuffle around for your clothes. If you make the process of getting dressed simple, you will be more likely to stick with it.
Train for an Event
Sometimes, having an event to train for is a great motivator. It doesn’t need to be a marathon. You can pick something a little less involved, like a 5K or a 10K. Select an event, choose a training program, and stick with it. If you want even more to shoot for, choose a running event that is a benefit for charity. Not only will you have a goal to help you stay focused, but you can also help raise money for your favorite charity.
Find a Running Partner
Some people like to run by themselves because they enjoy the solitude. However, others have a difficult time getting motivated unless they have someone to run with. If you need to run with people, you can either find a running partner or join a running group. It can be fun to train with others, especially if you all share the same goals.
Run With Music
Music can also be very motivating. If you have a difficult time concentrating during your runs or if you have chosen not to run because you think it is too boring, try bringing some music along with you. Choose something that is upbeat and lively so that it will help you move more quickly.
Hockey Helmet? Wear It, Stay Alive
Hockey helmet is the most important gear that every player should wear before entering the field to protect themselves from injury. National hockey league players are advised to change their helmets once every seven years as that is all the wear and tear a hockey helmet can stand. Also if a person were to pick up a second hand helmet, it must be tested for durability else will not serve the purpose at all. The sport of hockey is such that people often collide with each other while playing a match and there could be injuries to the head. By wearing a safety hockey helmet , thereby reduces the risk of brain damage by 60%. In fact even on the roads, people who commute using two wheelers are advised to wear helmets, which is again for their own safety.
Along with the team uniforms, a helmet is also handed out to all players before the match. And they are required to have it on at all times. These helmets are usually made of high quality plastic that does not break or bend with collusions. Also the helmets must have a protective face mask with a secured leather strap secured tight around the chin. There are some players who don’t like to wear the helmet saying it restricts their movement and hampers vision, but this will only cause harm to their head or skull and render them unfit for the sport. The hockey helmet has become so popular that today there are miniature helmets being created as part of the sports collectibles in many stores. People are ready to spend hundreds of dollars and buy one of these miniature versions just so they can own a piece of their team and proudly display it in their homes. There are also companies that make hockey helmets for fun purpose for children to enjoy while playing the game in their homes. Sometimes people like to buy these helmets and sport them at home as a curio piece. Or those who enjoy collecting sports memorabilia have a interest in these helmets amongst other sports gear. They enjoy purchasing and showing them off as part of their growing collection of sports collectibles.
All the leading doctors and ophthalmologists state the main reason for injury in sports is because of faulty or no head gear. While playing on ice, the risk factor is much more higher and so the need to protective gear is greater. Hockey helmet needs to be worn at all times while on the filed or arena irrespective of whether one is playing or not. The top selling hockey helmets are the ones made by Nike Bauer which has adjustable straps that allows the player to choose the place where he is comfortable in. these come in different colors and to fit different skull shapes. The helmets available in the market are authentic and some of the autographed helmets sold at souvenir stores are a way of preserving a moment of the sport forever.
How To Run Safely
Susan was a slave to her schedule. Rain or shine, she laced on her running shoes and set out on her daily jog. She left at the same time, ran the same route, and arrived home at the same time.
It was like clockwork. And the schedule that gave Susan comfort gave the mugger opportunity. Susan knew there was trouble the moment he pulled his car beside her on the curb and asked for directions.
She kept running, he kept following. This day belonged to Susan, though. A mounted policeman crossed her path, and she yelled for help.
The car sped off, but was caught two blocks later. The driver was wanted for armed robbery and rape, and admitted that he had singled out Susan because he knew when and where to find her.
On Your Mark
* If you are a new runner, visit your physician for a complete medical examination if you have high blood pressure or lipids; a personal or family history of health problems; or if you are: over 35 years of age; overweight; physically inactive and easily fatigued; a smoker.
* Get fit before starting to run. Consult a medical professional for strengthening exercises and stretches for running.
* Warm up before you run. Afterwards, cool down to enable your body to gradually return to normal.
Plan Carefully
* Choose a safe time and place to run. Walk the route first.
* If possible run on grass or dirt. Knee injuries can occur if you run on hard surfaces.
* Avoid running on roadways. However, if you must run there:
-avoid peak traffic hours.
-run on the shoulder facing traffic at all times.
-obey all traffic signals.
-do not run on snow or ice covered roads.
Automobile drivers have enough distractions.
* Wear light colored clothing at dawn or dusk, and bright clothes in daytime.
* Alter your route. Don’t be predictable, which would allow someone to assume you would pass by at a certain time. Think of Susan.
* If you must run at night or in inclement weather, choose well-lighted, populated areas. Wear highly visible white or reflective clothing. To improve your chances of being seen, carry a flashlight.
* Save the safest area of your route for the end of your run. You are most fatigued then and less able to deal with an emergency situation. Reserve some energy for emergencies.
* Make eye contact with drivers before crossing in front of a car, even when you have the right-of-way.
* Avoid running on narrow, twisting or hilly roads with no shoulders. You are hard to see, and when two cars approach each other, a hazardous situation occurs.
* Carry personal identification, including the person to contact in an emergency, and important medical information, such as blood type or allergies.
* Join a running association to get training tips.
Stay Alert At All Times
* Never run with headphones.
* Avoid running near doorways, alleys, or dense shrubs.
* Always tell someone where you will be running and when you will return. Better yet, run with a friend.
* If you use a jogging path, run during the popular hours.
* Do not wear bright or expensive jewelry. It can attract thieves.
* Ignore verbal harassment.
* Do not daydream. Run with your head up. Be aware of your surroundings.
* Know the places where you could get help if necessary.
* Avoid areas with aggressive dogs. The best way to treat a barking dog is to act as if you are ignoring it, but stay alert for an attack.
* Do not run between a dog and its owner, especially a child.
* If you suspect a car is following you, run the other way. Don’t hesitate to holler “I’m being followed” if you suspect someone is following you. Draw attention to yourself.
