The subject of street hockey equipment is an important one for anyone involved with the game. A little bit of prudence when choosing protective gear can safeguard the participant from serious injury. Similarly, purchasing appropriate sticks, balls, etc. can make the experience more fun for everyone. This article will explore the most crucial items that all individuals should have in their street hockey equipment toolbox.

Street Hockey Equipment Item Number One: The Ball

Serious street hockey players will insist on using a No Bounds Orange Ball. It had been produced in 1974 for the specific use as a street hockey ball. However it’s not necessary to use one of these orange balls. Often times a game can be enjoyed using an aged tennis ball, wiffleball, or practically anything else that can be found in the garage. I have come across one group which uses golf balls for this game, but I would not recommend it. Golf balls can reap some severe harm on anything it hits. Participants are much better off using an old unsightly tennis ball or something that doesn’t hurt so much.

Street Hockey Equipment Item Number Two: The Sticks

The sticks used in street hockey don’t need to be some thing special. Any old stick will work, at least temporarily. Nevertheless, the participant will find that a wooden stick will wear out very quickly on asphalt. It’s a much better idea in the long run to use a plastic bladed stick. They are very inexpensive and will last considerably longer than either a wooden or a composite form of bladed stick.

Street Hockey Equipment Item Number Three: Goalies

Every other player on a street hockey team often will get away with minimal protective equipment. The goalie, however, is jeopardizing life and limb without correct protection. At the very least, she or he should wear blocker pads, chest protection, shin protectors, along with a helmet having a face guard to prevent injury. Elbow pads and gloves will also be a good idea. And for the serious player they ought to think about pads with calf guards as well as ankle guards. Without proper protection, the participant whose playing in the net is actually an accident waiting to happen.

Conclusion:

A pickup game of street hockey could be enjoyable for all players. It doesn’t have to be a coordinated league of organized teams; they could just be several guys or gals who want to have a great time. Nevertheless, each and every player should have at least a minimum quantity of street hockey equipment.

The rules in golf are fairly simple if you already know them, however explaining them could take a while. If you are not very familiar with the basics, the first thing you would need to know would be the main objective of the game: you have to hit the ball at the start or at the tee into the hole for every section in the course’s 18 sections or 18 holes.

The hole is located on the green, which is a piece of short and well-maintained grass. Once you are already on the green, you need to use your putter, which is the club that has a slab-like end, instead of your other normal clubs.

Every hole has a specified target number of shots to be done from the tee to the hole. This is called the par. For instance, if you are on a par 5 hole, you would need to get the ball from the tee to the hole in five shots or less. If you were able to do it with exactly the number of shots specified, then your score would be a par. If you did it in one less than the par, your score would be a birdie. If you did it in two less than the par, your score would be an eagle. Three below par would be called an albatross and the best score would be a hole in one, which happens if you were able to get the ball from the tee to the hole in one hit.

On the other hand, if you scored one more than the par then that would be a bogey. Two more than the par would be a double bogey. If you have tried for more that 12 shots, then you forfeit the hole. You would then have to move to the next hole.

Eventually, as you go through the game, there would be various hazards that you would have to deal with. If your ball lands on the rough, which is an area on the course that has long grass, you could find it difficult to move on from that area. There could also be trees on the rough of some courses, which could make them harder to get out of. The worst hazards would be the lakes and the ponds, because if you hit the ball into one, it would cost you the shot you took and another shot as a penalty, which would make it harder to reach par.

Most people mistakenly assume that running is an expensive sport, however in truth, this is not the case. What I like about running is that you can get by with minimal gear. Yet the few things that you do need will make a big difference about the way you feel when you run. Let’s take a look at the gear that you will need and the gear to stay away from in order to enjoy your running experience.

Choosing Comfortable Running Shoes

Running shoes will be your most essential purchase. Comfort is of the utmost concern, so it is crucial that you know your foot type and sizing. Running shoes also need to be durable enough to stand the test of time and wear. Forget about buying the prettiest model.

Old shoes are definitely off the list as they will not be able to provide the comfort and support that new shoes can. The shoes you buy must be able to support your feet well and should also suit your particular style of walking and running. Those that are new to running, should pay special attention when looking for runners as their delicate feet could use the extra cushioning.

Choosing Comfortable Running Apparel

You need to be able to move easy and feel comfortable during your run. Comfy running apparel is also key to feeling good on your run. It is not uncommon to find beginners going overboard and overdressing, only making their whole running experience more uncomfortable for themselves. This is a good way to ruin your run experience.

What Not to Wear During a Run

Most people tend to go with cotton tee shirts when they start to run. Think again before wearing a cotton t-shirt to run in. They absorb all your sweat, becoming stiff and will eventually start chaffing. Sleeveless t-shirts also aren’t always the best choice for runners to wear either as they may cause underarm chafing. Always wear new garments on shorter runs first in case of discomfort. Running gear made from technical fabric such as coolmax is usually the best choice.

Seasonal Weather and Running Gear

If you plan on running year round, outfit your wardrobe with the appropriate seasonal gear While light airy materials will be good for summer, they are really not adequate during winter. Stopping running simply because the season has changed or because it is too hot, cold, or is rainy is not good. You should make sure that you continue to run, but just take adequate precautions with regards to clothing.

During winter, try not to go with heavier garments. Instead opt to wear many layers. It’s easy to remove a layer if you get too warm during your run. Layer your running apparel with added protection such as a running jacket as the outer layer. While a heavy sweatshirt or a sweater may seem really good initially, you will soon overheat.

Strong legs, strong lungs, strong will. Such is the portrait of a typical distance runner. The good news is that you can be a runner, too.

Why run?

Running carries with it the same benefits of all cardiovascular exercise: it helps reduce stress, strengthens the heart and lungs, reduces risk of certain diseases, increases confidence, brightens your mood, helps you sleep better, gives you more energy, and, in general, provides a better sense of well being. It is also a great way to burn calories.

How many calories do you burn running a mile?

Conventional wisdom says that, for every mile you run, you will burn 100 calories. But other factors play into the equation as well, including your running speed and your body weight. Generally speaking, a 135 pound person will burn about 100 calories per mile. A 200 pound person, running at the same speed, may burn 150. Obviously, the faster you run, the more calories you will burn.

Starting to run

Running can be stressful on your body, particularly on your leg muscles and knees. But you can minimize your risk of injury with a few simple tips.

Make sure to stretch before and after every run. Walk briskly for at least 5 minutes at the beginning of each run. Once you feel your body starting to warm up, do some gentle stretching exercises. Focus on steady, continuous stretches and avoid bouncing through the stretch.

If you are new to running, here is how you can work up to a 30 minute running routine while reducing the risk of injury.

Your first goal will be to make sure that you can walk at a brisk pace for 30 minutes. If you can do that, start to run at a slow pace until you become short of breath. Then walk briskly until you feel like you can run again. Continue with these intervals. You can challenge yourself by timing these intervals and working toward longer intervals. For example, maybe the first day you will run for 30 seconds and walk for 2 minutes. As your endurance increases, run longer and walk for shorter distances.

Another interval technique involves counting your footsteps, instead of measuring time. When you are first starting your running routine, you may do 100 or 200 running footsteps with 300 or 400 walking footsteps in between. Then you can work up to 400 or 500 running footsteps with 200 walking footsteps in between. Each day, try to extend the number of running footsteps and reduce the number of walking footsteps (even by just a few footsteps) until you are running for a full 30 minutes. Counting steps can help give your mind a clear focus toward an achievable goal.

It is important to not push yourself too hard. Even if you simply walk for 30 minutes and can manage to get in a couple of one or two minute runs, you are getting your heart rate up, and you will be reaping some of those health benefits. The rule of thumb is this: run at a pace at which you can still talk. If you are very short of breath, slow down or take a walk break.

Once you are running for a full 30 minutes, keep up this interval training to maximize the benefits of your running routine. For example, run at your normal pace and then speed it up for 30 seconds or one minute (or 200 or 300 footsteps).

After every run, walk for a few minutes, and stretch your muscles again.

Making the most of your running routine

Here are a few more tips to help you make the most of your running routine:

Invest in a good pair of running shoes, which will increase comfort and reduce your risk of injury.

Plan to rehydrate about every 10 minutes during your run.

The best places to run are smooth dirt roads or paths, which are not as hard as asphalt and concrete. Ask around (at your local running store, for example) for recommendations of good routes.

Finally, make sure to follow these simple safety precautions: Running with a friend (or even a dog) is safer than running alone. At the very least, tell someone when you are leaving, where you are going, and when they should expect you to return. Leave your valuables at home, vary your routes, and stay in busy, well lit areas. Pay attention to what is going on around you. That means leaving the headphones at home, or turning the volume down low. Lastly, always jog against traffic, so you can assess oncoming cars for potential danger.

A running routine is a rewarding way to build strength and endurance. Enjoy the process of developing your own strong legs, strong lungs, and strong will.

Note: The tips in this article are for general information only. Before starting any exercise routine, you should consult with your doctor.

Are you looking for details on street hockey sticks?

If so, you’ve come to the right place. This information will concentrate on several important bits of information that any hockey player needs to have before buying street hockey sticks.

Street Hockey Sticks Item Number One: Size

Hockey players come in all size and shapes. There are tall ones and small ones, fat ones and slim ones, and they all have various requirements when it comes to street hockey sticks. It’s vital to size their stick appropriately. There’s a considerable amount of personal preference involved, but there is one good guideline. Street hockey sticks ought to reach the players collarbone, but no more than his or her mouth. If your stick is any shorter or any longer than this particular rule of thumb, then you’ll not perform as well as you’ll probably be when you use a proper stick.

Street Hockey Sticks Item Number Two: Material

When comparing street hockey sticks, you’ll find 2 basic types: aluminum and wood. For your novice, wood will be the recommended material to purchase. Most importantly, it is much cheaper than an aluminum stick. It may not last as long, but if the participant is beginning his hockey career, than wood is probably the prudent option. As any hockey parent can testify, your child that loves hockey these days, may determine he would rather be playing Nintendo tomorrow. Aluminum sticks, alternatively are actually designed for more sophisticated participants. They will survive longer in most cases when compared with wooden sticks. Additionally it’s possible to get off a harder shot compared to a wood stick. And for those participants who are focused on their appearance, aluminum sticks are far better looking!

Street Hockey Sticks Item Number Three: The Blades

A mother or father can invest a veritable fortune on hockey sticks throughout their child’s career. My recommendation is to not be in a rush to buy premium sticks. Stay away from composite sticks that costs in excess of 0 in favor of much less expensive versions. Most likely the best choice is really a wooden stick with a plastic blade. It certainly is the cheapest alternative, and the quality should be sufficient for many younger participants as well as occasional street hockey enthusiasts.

Conclusion:

Hockey moms and dads are well advised to budget frugally with their children’s hockey gear. If they are a new comer to the game, or simply wish to play outside, then a prudent mom or dad should choose an inexpensive wooden stick. In the end, before very long, your son or daughter might be playing peewees or bantams or even at the high school level. At that time you’ll be spending a veritable fortune on their gear. Why hurry the process? For the young and/or occasional participant, inexpensive street hockey sticks make the perfect alternative.

The subject of ice hockey helmets can become an emotional debate with many individuals in the hockey community. There are some who think the helmet has led to more injuries in professional hockey, due to the fact players are no longer as cautious with their sticks. The majority of people nevertheless think that ice hockey helmets really are a necessary piece of equipment to ensure the safety of hockey players, young and old. This article will investigate the various styles of ice hockey helmets.

Ice Hockey Helmets Version Number One: Helmet Only

Ice hockey helmets were actually a rarity in the NHL prior to the early seventies. It had been in 1968 that the player named Bill Masterton died from traumas suffered while playing for the Minnesota North Stars. He was rushed to the hospital with blood gushing through his face and ears, and finally was pronounced dead from a substantial brain injury. In standard NHL style, it took them 11 additional years before they mandated using helmets. Luckily, by that point almost all players were voluntarily wearing them. These days participants at every level need some sort of extra protection over and above the helmet itself.

Ice Hockey Helmets Version Number Two: Helmet with Cage

The cage provides by far the best defense against flying pucks and careless sticks. Every youth hockey system, as far as I know, requires the use of these cages for every participant. Even players at the college level have to wear some sort of protection, and most of them wear a cage. It was not too long ago, when high school hockey players were already using dentures. On my particular hockey team in the seventies, almost half of the players had found themselves spitting out teeth at some time or another during a game.

Ice Hockey Helmets Version Number Three: Helmet With Visor

The visor really comes in two basic styles: half shield and full shield. They’re both coupled to the front of the helmet in order to deflect pucks and sticks (and what ever else) from hitting the players face. A full shield offers the most protection, and therefore are almost as effective as cages. Half Shields, alternatively, only safeguard the upper half of the face area. They offer virtually no protection for the mouth, and only marginal protection for the eyes. You’ll find reports of participants sporting half shields that suffer injuries from sticks that plunge up between the guard and their face. Having said that, half shields remain better than nothing. The NHL is clearly advising their players to wear one, many are now doing so.

Conclusion:

If you or one of your loved ones plays the game of hockey, then you should consider wearing one of the different ice hockey helmets, as discussed here. In the end, participants are larger and faster, and could shoot harder than in the past. You would be insane to play the game of hockey with out wearing one of the various ice hockey helmets.
